Hua Ro Market

Detail of Attractions

Hua Ro Market is an ancient market that has existed since the Ayutthaya period. It is located in an area where several rivers and canals converge, making it a convenient trading hub since ancient times. This market has historically been a melting pot of various ethnic groups, including Mon, Vietnamese, Thai, Muslim, and Chinese communities. Initially, Hua Ro was a densely populated Chinese community during the Ayutthaya period. It is situated in the northeastern part of the island city, where at least two major rivers, the Lopburi River and the Pa Sak River, converge. One river flows northward to form a city canal, while the other flows directly into the eastern city canal.

Today, "Hua Ro Market" is over 200 years old and is under the care of the Crown Property Bureau, which aims to preserve and promote it as a cultural tourism market. Visitors can learn about and experience the local way of life and cuisine. The market is well-organized, with a roof covering the entire area, making it comfortable to walk around without being exposed to the sun or rain. The local community, including the elderly residents, is known for their friendliness and charm. The market is famous for its fresh and dried food products. For good fortune, visitors can also visit the "Chao Mae Ton Chan Shrine" at the end of the market, which is a sacred shrine for the local community.

The spatial design of Hua Ro Market features flat surfaces throughout the market area, making it suitable for tourists using canes or wheelchairs. However, there are limitations due to the shared space with motorcycles, which use the same pathways as pedestrians. Disabled tourists should be accompanied by a guide for safety.
